Silk Path Founder Arrested While Bitcoins Plummet

Bitcoins are in the news, between the shut down of Silk Road,a plummet in exchange rates, and a new live-streaming site.

It’s been a serious week for Bitcoins in the news; a whammy that is triple actually.

First, there was the arrest by the FBI of Silk Road’s founder known online only by his handle ‘Dread Pirate Roberts’, but apparently understood to the feds only a little more intimately as Ross William Ulbricht- while the seizure and shut down of the Silk Road site itself. Silk path had been an exclusively Bitcoin site that is gambling well-known to many being an open market for illegal drugs and more; the web site’s just under a million registered users were usually cash launderers, in line with the arrest warrant.

‘Based on my training and experience, Silk Road has emerged as the absolute most advanced and extensive unlawful marketplace on the net today,’ FBI Special Agent Christopher Tarbell noted in the grievance. Tarbell added that within the past 2 1/2 years, Silk Road generated some $1.3 billion worth of equivalent Bitcoin trades and netted $85 million in commissions for itself, often for things as macabre as employing hitmen, seeking out computer hackers or purchasing illegal weapons.

DraftKings and FanDuel Turn Off in New York State Pending September Appeal

DFS sites DraftKings and FanDuel will cease offering their services to residents of New York State immediately, the attorney general’s (AG) office announced on Monday.

All wagers Are Off: New York State AG Eric Schneiderman (left, seen here with Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2014) has agreed to keep back on his interest in billions in DFS and fines that are buy-in DraftKings and FanDuel until a September hearing in court.

That is section of a settlement which will see the AG’s office keep from pursuing litigation that would hold both web sites responsible for huge amounts of dollars in player restitution and fines.

Last December, AG Eric Schneiderman amended his lawsuit against DFS and FanDuel to seek the return of all the buy-ins paid by customers who played in New York State throughout 2015, plus a $5,000 fine head that is per.

With 600,000 customers collectively, New York represents the sites’ second-biggest market after California, and liabilities would amount to around $3 billion in fines collectively, with millions on top of that in returned buy-ins.

Rather, the AG has agreed to postpone his litigation until September, when an appeal up against the lawsuit is going to be heard.

Legal Skirmishes
